Meet Alex
In 2026, Alex Ertl joined Collaborative Growth Therapy to offer psilocybin-assisted therapy. A clinical psychologist since 2016, Alex brings a depth of knowledge and clinical experience to this work.
A note from Alex:
There are a number of qualities I try to cultivate as a professional, husband, father, and friend. I hope those who know me would describe me as kind, patient, and someone who doesn't get rattled easily. I try to bring humor and lightness into life, though those closest to me would probably say I find myself funnier than I actually am. I've never fit the traditional mold of hypermasculinity and have generally been more emotionally self-aware than many of my male peers. One of the greatest compliments I've received from clients is that I was the first man they felt they could truly trust, and that experience opened the door to trusting other men as well.
During a facilitation or journey session, I strive to offer a calm, steady presence. I don't take myself too seriously, while holding deep respect for the seriousness of what psilocybin can bring forward. I'm constantly paying attention to whether someone needs more space to navigate their own experience or more active support and partnership. My goal is to be predictable, reliable, ethical, and grounded, because I believe those qualities create the safety that allows meaningful work to unfold.
One of the things I love most about psilocybin is its ability to help people see themselves and the world through a new lens. My role is to support whatever emerges in that experience, whether it feels firmly grounded in the material world or something beyond it. I'm probably a good fit for people who see themselves somewhere within, or adjacent to, mainstream society but are ready to move beyond old patterns of thinking and living. If there were a "woo-woo" scale, I'd probably fall on the lower end, though I have deep respect for people whose beliefs land elsewhere.
Professionally, I've worked as a licensed clinical psychologist since 2016. Over the past decade, I've maintained a broad generalist practice while developing particular expertise in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, couples therapy, and major life transitions. I previously led a trauma-focused treatment program, supporting individuals whose experiences ranged from single traumatic events to complex developmental trauma.
While specialization has its place, I'm ultimately far more interested in the whole person than in their diagnosis, identity, or any single aspect of their story. Every person who sits across from me is more than the category they fit into. I have deep respect for this plant medicine and the thousands of years of wisdom surrounding its use. I also value what modern Western psychology has contributed, despite recognizing its limitations. My hope is to bring the strengths of both traditions together, combining the grounding of evidence-based psychological practice with a deep reverence for the open-ended transformative potential of psilocybin.
